Default tranny problem

I have an 02 Z06 and my 4th is starting to grind, i shift gears at around 2500 to 3200, 1st 2nd 3rd 5th and 6th go in smoothly with no problems but my fourth when I try to shift at that rpm range always grinds I have to wait for the rpms to drop to 1300 or maybe less in order for that gear to go in smooth, another thing I noticed was that I can downshift from 5th to 4th at high rpms and it doesnt grind, so basically 4th gear grinds when shifting from 3rd to 4th at mid rpms or higher but I can downshift to 4th at any rpm range, any idea what this might be

Always try the shifter alignment procedure which is fast and easy to do. Past that, sounds like the synchros are worn out.

I had the same problem with my 5th gear, drove it a year like that. Just installed a new trans this week, sure is nice.

Have same problem with M6 ... only 4th gear .... getting RPM M12 installed next week ... blockers (syncros) are shot ... grinds at all rpms up or down ... cant wait for new trans

Most likely culprit is a cracked steel outter blocking ring on the 4th gear OR blocking ring with outter teeth missing. I do see more missing teeth than cracked rings, BTW.
