i bought a 97 one owner and it ran fine for 100 miles, left it set for 10 days and service column lock turned on and shut down the car, it has had the recall done by gm, last nite went to the car wash and washed it, went to leave and same thing happened, first time i put in new battery and that worked. this time had to get rollback to pick it up . went to the garage where it was taken to and got in it to retrive some stuff and tryed to start it and it ran fine with no issues or message service column lock, any thoughts on this , dkrose54@yahoo.com

Do a search on "column lock" overr the last 2 or 3 weeks. There are probably a dozen threads on this subject that are that current. You can also read the first 2 pages and the last 10 pages of this thread:

You'll have all there is to know about this problem..
if the recall was done and gm says it was , do i replace the harness they installed, or replace it with a coh harness, all i saw was questions with no real answers
Just install a column lock bypass. $50 will fix all of your problems. I had the same issue and have had many freinds with the same problem. You can do all the research you want and you will conclude that you need a CLB. the issue is one of voltage, and you can fix it by replacing batteries / cleaning the terminals / finding the short / etc... but just installing a CLB will fix your problem permanently.
