I am getting the Z06 repros in 18x9.5 and 18x10.5. Nitto has a 265/35ZR-18 for the front, but they only have a 285/35ZR-18 or a 295/45ZR-18 for the rear. Which would YOU recommend?! I know bparker ran the 285/35ZR-18 out rear and that worked out fine, but I was wondering if I could go with the 295/45ZR-18 without problems? The stockers are 275/40ZR-18. Will I actually create extra sidewall height?? I know there is something to the width and its relation to the sidewall.........HELP ME OUT!!! I don't want to screw up the speedo.........
Thanks! :D
285/35/18
speedo reading will be 6.7% too slow, so when you are going 60mph you will really be doing 64mph compared to the stock size [275/40/18]
285/35/18
speedo reading will be 3.0% too fast, so when you are going 60mph you will really be doing 58.2mph compared to the stock size [275/40/18]
C5 YA,
WOW!! Thanks for the specs!! :)
I am assuming that what I highlighted above was supposed to be 295/45ZR-18?!? So, this would probably be the better choice since the speedo would be off by less (and LOWER) and I will have the extra width for more traction???
I thought I knew the answer to this one, but my answers keep coming up screwey.
I have heard all different kinds of ways to size tires. ( i.e. a lot of people including the tire stores did not know what all those numbers meant)
Here is my understanding.
In the tire size 275 / 40 - 18 , the first number represents the footprint size in mm. The second number is the aspect ratio. This ratio is expressed in % or the aspect ratio is 40% of 275 meaning that the sidewall height is 40% of 275. The last number is of course Inner diameter, or Rim size.
The problem that I have with that is that for our stock tires the sidewall would have to be 110mm which is 4.29 inches. I measured my sidewall and it is around 3.3 - 3.4 inches.
I really dont mean to answer your question with a question. Maybe the aspect ratio refers to uninflated tire size. Is there that much variation?
Sorry to confuse the issue. I know some of these guys here can clear this up.
No problem........you didn't confuse me.
I am just wondering if the 295 or the 285 is a better choice based on his calculations.
I would REALLY like pics of the ANY 295/45ZR-18 tire on a 10.5 in rim!!!! :yesnod:
I think I am going to make a new post.............. :)

Re: Will 295/45ZR-18 NITTOS work?!? (johnso26)
In my opinion, a 295/45/18 will seem too tall for the Corvette. It is about 2 inches taller than the stock 270/40/18 and about two and a half inches taller than the 295/35/18 that most people run on the back of C5s...
I tend to agree with 4dcykey. I think that the 295 / 45 will be to tall a tire for the vette. Physically I think they will fit, I just like the low profile look better.
