Default Quick Question on TPMS

The last few days when heading out to work the TPMS sends an alert for both LF and LR, by time I make it a couple miles down the road, they both go away. I am attributing this to the tires warming up and pressure increasing. When I get to work and check the pressure, they are all within one pound of pressure to the others.

Is it a "warming" issue or should I be concerned about something else.

Thanks

It takes a few miles for the sensors to wake up. Also the tire pressure does rise as the tire warms up.

The sensors still transmit pressure readings to the computer even when parked, only it is once every 60 minutes rather than the once every 60 seconds when the car is moving.

I have found here in Florida in the winter (30's-40's) my tire pressures will vary by 3-4 psi between cold and hot. I also have found a 1-2 psi difference between sensor pressure and tire gauge pressure. If you are running under 30 psi in your tires I would expect you to get the low pressure warnings as the ambient temperature decreases. The warning will be displayed once pressure is at 25 psi or below.

Once parked for a certain amount of time, the TPMs on the earlier '97 to '00 cars do not transmit and go into a "sleep" state. Once they are in "sleep" state, the TPMs "wake up" and start transmitting at approx 15-17 mph. Best I can tell, it's probably a centrifugally actuated switch in the TPMs that turns them on initially. That's why the earlier cars will show a blank screen for tire pressure on start-up after sitting overnight for example.

I converted my '99 system to the later '01+ system and that's the first thing different that I noticed on upon initial start-up. I get a tire pressure reading immediately upon start-up regardless of how long/short of a time the car has been parked.

Next time, hit the reset on the warning and then you can check the pressure to see what it is complaning about.
