i just replaced my clutch with ls7 and new slave but the dealership that installed it didnt have gm dot 4..well i put around 700 miles on the new clutch and the fluid turned a little darker color..well i ordered gm dot 4 and it looks darker right out of the bottle so i put some in and after about 30 miles its really dark looking..just seeing if thats normal with the new gm stuff
I just had a new clutch installed and I might have around 150 miles since the install and I checked the fluid last weekend and it was already turning brown. It's from the heat, that's why I installed the Tick Remote Bleeder.
it called for dot 3 then but gm switched to dot 4 a few years ago..the thing with the gm dot 4 is it looks brownish when its new so i dont know if that has anything to do with it turning darker sooner
I think it calls for DOT 3 and using DOT 4 triggers a memory with me that its a bad idea. I don't remember why this second.
it's fine to mix 3 & 4. DOT5 is a no no for mixing with either of them.
4 has the same basic properties as 3 but has something in it that raise the boiling point. I can't see that this would be an issue for the clutch like it could be for brakes though.
