I have been trying to get my dipstick tube in place, I just bought a new one because the one that was in the car when I bought it didn't fit right. So I got this new one today and I tried to put it in and it has the same problem. It doesn't fit right at all. I bought it for a 01 corvette and am I missing something?? It is pushed down all the way. Let me know what yall think. Thanks alot
I just happened to have put on a set of American Racing Long Tube Headers last weekend. The reason your tube isn't fitting correctly is because the original Dip Stick Tube was bolted to the stock exhaust manifold. Yours isn't mounted in the correct position. Here is what I did. In your picture there are the 2 bolts very close to each other in the center of where the header bolts to the block. They are the ones just above your spark plug and just above the bracket on your tube. Just above those 2 bolts is a drilled and tapped hole in the block that is not used. I found a bolt that would fit the hole then I found a scrap of aluminum 10 ga sheet metal and cut a strip 4" x 5/8". I drilled a hole (just larger than the bolt I found to fit the block) in one end 1/2" from the end then used a hack saw blade with tape wrapped around it for a handle to cut from the end to the outside of the bolt hole opening making a slot. I then bent the piece 90 degrees 3/4" from the end with the slot in it and bolted this onto the block. I worked the stock bracket on the tube back and forth until I poped it off (it is spot welded on). I then put the tube up to the piece of aluminum and bent the aluminum around the tube with my fingers and a pair of channel locks. I was careful when I pinched around the tube not to damage it. This mounted the dip stick tube very close to the original position. The original position is on the left side of the spark plug your tube is mounted closest to. If you do the same thing just make sure you keep the tube away from the spark plug wire. It is easy if you use the same length I suggested. One other thing I was thinking of when I did this is I used an original bolt from an aluminum block and the aluminum sheet metal because if you use stainless or ferrous uncoated metal on aluminum the metals react and create galvanic corrosion. It will scar and corrode where they are in contact with each other. I don't know the alloy of the aluminum so it may not make a difference but better safe than sorry.

Reason: correction
No problem. Getting info and ideas are what these forums are for. It is just my recent experience and Idea on the bracket. There's more than one way to skin a cat. (I'm an old guy) You just have to decide what is best for you.
Vsocks1 where is the bracket mounted? I am not running the air pump so I didn't get the ones with the air pump line bracket. When I called AR they said they don't make a bracket replacement so you are on your own to fabricate what you need.

It is bolted into the head in a hole located just above the header - if needed I can try and get a picture for you. Believe it may be same location as stock?
