Default Minimum Required?

Ok, so... I'm trying to decide, between getting a Crate motor, and a TT setup.

Eventually I'll have both when my pocket book agrees with my wants.

Anyways the choice is between getting a LSX 454, or a STS TT.

Now with the STS kit I can just bolt it on to my stock 98 C5 A4 with no issues, and bump it to 480/480 at the wheels on 8 PSI.

But the LSX 454 base crate motor makes 570/580 something stock. I'm not sure if that's crank or at the wheels.
But with the LSX 454 I could sell my LS1 to help pay for it, means less out of my pocket.

So that brings us back to the question. What would be the bare minimum for a LSX 454 install in a C5 A4?

Could the stock suspension hold it?
I know upgrade the breaks. I already have some picked out.

What about the drive shaft, the transmission, the rear end?

What would I all have to worry about breaking, other than my neck when I stomp on the throttle?

What is your budget short term and long term? How long do you plan to keep the car? Do you plan to race it or just cruise? If you plan to race, what kind of racing?

When you start modifying the car extensively, you will undoubtedly have to upgrade components of the vehicle. There will be trade offs along the way between reliability, performance and cost.

Well eventually I plan to virtually rebuild the car, with a custom interior, doors, and everything essentially.

But for now I'm just going to increase it's performance. Streight line is not my aim completely. I'd prefer it faster around the corner than a streight. But that's cheaper than power. So I'm going for power first.

It's a daily driver, so I plan on keeping it that way. I race when I can. Auto cross, top speed runs, closed road courses, pretty much anything I can get to.

I know I have to at least do breaks, and eventually a transmission build up. But I want to know what I just have to do for the LSX 454. I already know I can just bolt on the STS TT kit and run 8 PSI putting 480/480 down with out modding or adding anything else. That's what I want to know for the LSX 454.

Sorry man. I didn't read your post carefully enough to notice that you had an automatic. I was dazed by the idea of having a 454ci motor

It's fun to day dream, but lets be realistic. You're 22 years old.... have a ~$15,000 car as a daily driver and you're talking like you're going to spend another $30k on this car. You may be the exception (people always are) but most 22 year olds don't quite have their priorities properly aligned, nor the income or knowledge to pull something like this off. If you have the income, then I suggest you spend a fraction of your budget on smaller mods and save the rest of the money for a house/kids/etc.

You should be less concerned with brakes and suspension and more concerned with drivetrain strength. You'll likely need to upgrade the transmission and differential before *needing* suspension and brakes.

Save your money for a C6Z06, you'll have 500+ hp for a lot cheaper than it will take to make this 500HP.
