dipstick question

Default dipstick question
I just changed my oil and i drove the car for awhile then parked it in the garage and let it sit overnight..i pulled the dipstick out in the morning and it was way over the full mark so i cleaned it off and stuck it back in and it was right in the middle where it should be..just wondering why it was so full the first time i took it out

If you changed the oil and put in 6-7 quarts--your fine--could have been some oil film on the stick

Oil change with filter should be 6 and 2/3 qts. After an overnite rest the stick should see an oil level at the top of the full range
