I have a 2002 Z06. About a year ago, when the tank wouuld be filled completely, there would be gas fumes in the garage afterwards.
Additionally about 6 months ago the fuel guage would code and indicate empty until I reset the code via the DIC. Also after a fill up the guage will only read about 7/8 full. The fuel guage will set a code maybe 3-4 times a month.
Prior to all this, the fuel guage, and trip calculator in the DIC was spot on. Fuel guage would track very accurately, the miles to go was extremely accurate. Never had any fumes on the car from a full tank.
Though the guage doesn't read full, once I burn off gas the guage seems to pick up accurately about the 3/4 mark, and the DIC is still pretty accurate.
I read through the other post on the forum, but seems that mine is a little different from most.
Any ideas what may be at issue? Is there a computer calibration that could fix the guage at full tank, or is this a sensor issue? What about the venting fumes? Is there a check valve, or other component causing the fumes? Otherwise, no issues, all original with about 65K miles on the car. Only other code is the 1416 for the airflow check valve which I haven't gotten around to changing out since it is behind the block. Any help greatly appreciated? G
Your gas gauge problems are likely related to either dirty or a defective fuel sensors in the tank. While there are no guarantees you should add a bottle of Techron to your next few fill ups.
As far as the fumes go there is some history with leaking crossover pipe between the left and right fuel tanks. Do a search on crossover pipe and you'll see a number of threads.

That was the problem with my 02Z, had to tighten both of the hose clamps on the 2" hose connecting the tanks. Drivers side was loose and leaking, then cleaned up the leaked gasoline residue up with brake clean. So far no more leak or gasoline smell after fill ups.

Are the clamps easy to get too or did it require dropping componets to reach? Thanks, G
Any help on how to get to clamps on tank crossover? Is it possible a leaking cross over is preventing the passenger side tank from filling fully and that is causing the 7/8 full tank reading? Any help appreciated.
