Default IPC/DIC Dead! No Display!

Can someone please give me some info and or tips on what to do about my digital display? (IPM/DIC) It flickered for about a week or two and now it does not come up at all. All lights and gauges work fine, but i don't even get the digital read out of "Corvette By Chevrolet" at the start. Please any info would be greatly appreciated!

First you'll need to verify the large connector on the rear of the IP Cluster is plugged in properly and securely. Past that, on the rear of the IP Cluster is a device that runs the DIC, electronics and its most likely failed. I do not remember the name of it at this second but someone else here in the forum had this same issue and was able to obtain one from a place in Florida but since they were not a forum vendor, he could not post their name. Certainly a lot cheaper than an entire IP Cluster. You could possibly also send the IP Cluster out for repair.

Thanks for the info, it seems like something might be lose or something of that matter. I did notice today when i drove to work, it flickered for a few seconds and went away again. How can I verify the large connector is plugged in properly? Are there steps in how to do this, and if so what are they? Thanks again.

Sorry but you'll need to access the rear of it to get your hand on that connector. Its vertically mounted and I think about 2.5 inches long and a good inch wide, on the left back side. You might try removing the knee bolster and see if you can get your hand up in there.

I'd check the door accordians first, if that wire that only has a loose covering on it grounds somewhere, it could be the culprit.

Would you happen to know where i can see a picture of this online? Maybe wiring diagrams? just something that shows me what im looking for so that i can visually identify it. I've searched for a few days online and no luck. I did take off the knee bolster (if which you mean the plastic part with the foam attached that covers the steering column), there were sooo many wires and i was laying in a very uncomfortable position that i could not see what went where. The digital display keeps popping up every now and then, it's just so frustrating to see it for a second and gone for a half hour or longer...

Forum member Tstar is the best in this area for you. Here is a link with pictures but they don't quite show the large connector.

Now the posting about the possible shorting wire in the door jam accordian tube is a real possibility as well although it'll cause lots of cluster displays to go nuts as well as other things.

This is what i've been loking for!!!! Thanks for the info, looks like a time consuming project for a first timer. Ill ry to find the part 2nd hand first and then go from there...but at least now i can verify where the plug is and if it's the problem. thank you soooo much!
