I get a clanking noise with every tire rotation coming from the right rear. it's fairly loud. The noise speeds up with speed, slows down etc. it's present all the time.
I do not see any oil or grease anywhere. I've removed the wheels and let the car idle in 1st gear, and you can hear it's coming from the right rear.
I assume it's a right axle assembly. The noise just showed up. I have not driven anywhere but around the neighborhood since.
My question is this: Will it make a round trip of 100 miles so I can take it to a shop to get diagnosed?
(I've checked all the bolts I can find, and everything is tight)
I can't tell you what it is without hearing it first but I would put my money on the ring gear. I had 2 diffs making noise and both ended up being broken pinion gears. One was missing 3 teeth and drove 80+ miles like that!
problem is resolved. ended up being a brake line rubbing on an axle. Thanks to the guys at East Texas Muscle Cars! They found the problem and fixed in about 30 seconds.
