Lately my Vette (m6 2001 106kmi) has been having problems with second gear. Before I started having current problem it would just pop out of gear once in a while.
Currently I cannot get the car to shift into 2nd very often Ive tried to start off in second gear and shift it easily, quickly all it does it either grind even with clutch in or some times it kinda feels like it sits in but when i start letting the clutch out it starts grinding. Ive also tried holding it in place but that doesnt seem to help so I am not thinking its a syncro(sp?).
The most likely cause for popping out of gear is the broken plastic fork pads. Over time they get brittle and break. The fork doesn't engage the synchro ring all the way into the engagement tooth and ends up popping back out. Only fix? Rebuild it and replace them with bronze pads.

Ok. I just talked to a shop (over the phone) he asked me to try to shift it into gear with the car not running. And it does indeed seem to get into gear no problem. he seems to think it might be a clutch issue?

A clutch issue usually wouldn't just be isolated to one gear.
Take a look at the pics below. It's the 1-2 shift fork WITHOUT the plastic fork pads. When you shift into 2nd gear the fork is at the end of its travel but with the pads the synchro ring is NOT engaged all the way. The 3rd picture is what's left of the 1-2 fork pad.
So that gap is why once in a while it will shift into gear?
Correct. I have heard when shifting into that gear with force, it will go into gear without grinding but that is from inertial forces. Bottom line, you have to pull the trans and open it up.

When it does go into gear though It isn't done with force... some times it just goes in nice and smooth. Some days its different... today it was a 80%/20% chance of going into gear yesterday it was a 0%/100% to go into gear. I just wanna cover all my bases before I try to play with the transmission since I have no idea what to do with it.

If you have grinded that gear enough times, that could exacerbate the issue. You will need at least 2nd gear and 1-2 synchro, possibly the blocking rings/cones also.
