Default How to avoid the wheel hop

Is there any cheap way to avoid serious wheel hop? tire compound, air pressure, launch technique...

Took my 01 to the strip for the first time since performance mods were added.......wheel hop in 1st, 2nd....running Toyo 888R with 30 PSI no burnout

2nd run wheel hop during burnout , hop again in 1st......broke the differential

Car ran a 13.0 @ 125mph... not too bad with multiple gear hop.... but hard on the wallet.

The DTE brace is nice to keep everything together. Getting a good tranny mount (VBP, pfadt) is very helpful. Good shocks will help too. Poly bushings will help. Basically you want to minimize deflection in your drivetrain/suspension to avoid wheelhop.

Increase the traction or try to modulate the wheelspin. Too much spin too fast = hop.

well already had that piece...

with car jacked up and in gear the driver wheel will not turn by hand. The passenger wheel "freewheels". With tranny in neutral, both wheels "freewheel" there is no poitive traction/limited slip taking place where they both rotate together - would this be a symptom of bad spider gears?

Put a DTE brace on my car and I couldn't believe how it eliminated wheel hop. Kept everything nice and square under heavy throttle.

Can A DTE brace be installed without dropping the transmission out of the car?

Or a broken rt side O/P shaft.

Is this the long shaft or the short? I had a long O/P ( hardened )put in when the new clutch went in...that should not have broke.

This is all speculation, in regards to what broke.
At the very least, you need to pull the differential and go from there.

With as much HP as you are running, you will need excellent rubber in the rear to correctly launch. Your going to need slicks or at the bare minimum a really good drag radial tire. Worn/Street tires will be not be efficient.

Dropping the rear cradle down a few inches, with every thing still intact, would give you enough room to install. It still wouldn't be a fun thing to do.

it has to do with the harmonics of the rear of the car. sometimes something simple like changing shocks can completely eliminate it. you could also try a different spring or try using different brands of tires and different profiled tires. You could also switch to adjustable coilovers and experiment with different rates. Changing sway bars, sway bar bushings, and control arm bushings can also have an effect. Adding or removing weight from the rear of the car can change the harmonics also. as others have stated, you can also get a trans and diff brace.

All that wheel hop - getting off the gas and back on again and it still trapped at 125?

What are you doing with street tires?

I just noticed wheel hop yesterday for the first time.I was atributing it to worn tires and the 45 degree weather here in n.y..

Short answer. YES Long answer thier are way to many things to consider. I would need alot more info. The main thing is to let off as soon as you feel it. You will tear your car up bad if you try to drive through wheel hop. Alot has to do with the track

cheapest way is to road race the Vette because it was designed to road race not drag race

Mustangs with solid rear-ends are good dragsters

1. get an alignment
2. get some slicks with a decent sidewall hight

you want to eliminate the toe in effect that happens during hard acceleration, like stated above poly bushings, trans/diff mount, beefy rear sway bar and a set of shocks or coil overs.
