Default C5 Z06 LS6 Air Pump Removal?

Any opinions on removing the Secondary AIR Injection system from a LS6 Z06?

Thanks.

Opinions? If you do, you'll have to have the codes turned off(or live with them), and block off the AIR ports on the exhaust manifolds, plug the vacuum line, etc.

I should have been more clear.

I figured on that part (PCM reprogram, block-off plates, etc.).. but I don't see any mention of people doing it. I was curious if others had done this or there is some reason one shouldn't.

Very common. No performance downside if done properly.

Any pointers to anyone making block-off plate kits?

Couple of vendors make them. Don't recall all of them but Speed Inc. is one of them.

Unfortunately there isn't really a measurable performance upside to doing this either. Why do you want to remove it?

I just removed mine because I am repairing a totaled Z06. The air pump was gone "destroyed" so I did not want to pay for another when it is not needed.

Remove the bolts holding on to the exhaust manifold, and all the piping and plumbing, cut the tube at the plate and insert the appropriate size drill bit, weld both sides, cut and grind flush and you have your block off plates.

The only trouble is the bolt in the back of the block by the fire wall. Some people remove the intake manifold, but I just bent the tubes from each side front to back until the support snapped off and all is good, took about a hundred back and forth bends but easier then removing the manifold.

Cleans up the engine bay a little bit and ditch the added weight (although minimal)...seems like a good mod to me.

How do you guys get to the pump itself? Does the bumper need to come off?

You can access the pump from below on the driver's side. Just remove the black plastic cover plate, a handfull of small screws is involved. Don't forget to tape up the electrical connector real well, and the vac line too. The pump is rubber mounted, so you can wiggle it out rather than removing all the bolts. You will see, it iis easy. My tuner got rid of the applicable codes, using the "do not report" method. there is 4 or 5 that need to be addressed. If you do a search you will find them, or others may chime in. I did mine because I was sick of the failed check valve codes for the damm one behind the engine. Now that the plumbing is gone, the engine compartment is neater, and things are more accessable in general!
