My 2000 Vert Auto basically stock, has hypertech progammer.
Not all the time, but my Engine Cooling fan comes on
when it's not supposed to. I have the 160* T-stat that usually
runs about 172* engine temp.
Have the Hypertech set for fans to come on at 200*.
Lately, the fans come on way to early and stay on..
What should i check on this??????
engine temp on DIC is always right on so I don't have
a "cooling system" issue. Maybe there is a relay or something
screwing up.
It also depends on if the HVAC is running or not along with outside temperatures too at this time of the year. The HVAC will command on the fans whenever its running with the exception of temperatures down below something like 42 degrees. Also, the fans shut off at like 35 MPH so as not to reduce or block airflow into the radiator/condensor. Now you could have an opposite issue depending on the modes you are using with things in that you could have a blocked airflow with debris in the condensor and it needs to be cleaned out. Another possibility would be an air pocket in the cooling system. Is the coolant temp remaining fairly constant? Outside temp indicator constant? Have you checked for debris? Oh, one last thing, the fan grounds both go through the ground-pack at the right forward frame rail, on top, directly adjacent to the hood riser. Some have had that connection come lose.
I will check the ground pack up there.
There is no pattern to when they decide to malfunction and
come on...
First noticed that the Did NOT come on with a/c when hot out
about a month ago.. Then been ok.. for a while.
Now it's cool out and a/c/hvac all on OFF...
Fans kicked on the other night when engine temp was at 174-180*
Noticed this when I pulled into driveway and was shuttin er down for the
night. Had been on Rural/suburban roads at 45-50 mph and
temp outside was about 50*...
Just want to know what to check next.
Do these years have a fan controller?? Or just the temp sending
unit tells the ecm when and how fast (hi/lo) to kick in ??
The temp sensor for the gauge does not use the same temp sensor for the ECM or fans-With my data logger i often see gauges off by 5-15*
as compared to what the ECM sees---
The C-5's do not have a fan controller, rather the PCM telling the fans to run, low or high speed. Now the C-6's do have a fan controller but I don't have a clue where it even is yet.
