OK, I read the threads about having your alternator rebuilt because it's keyed to your PCM.
But since I have had my PCM upgraded from the stock 98 to a 2002 could I replace my alternator with the later model higher amp unit?
I suspect I have a bad regulator in mine.
You can pull the alternator off in 5 minutes and have it bench tested at any of the auto shops in your area, if it fails at one shop - take it to another to verify that test. (Ask me how I know, it failed at one, passed at another 2 places)
My high voltage issue was a loose battery connection - check if those are TIGHT, you should not be able to wiggle them by hand at all.
Alternator was fine - and cost $6 fix to repalce battery connetors.
I don't know about the swap, but Superman09 has a service where your stock alternator is disassembled, the halves polished, the guts rebuilt, reassembled, and tested.... cheaper than buying a new one!
