jumped the car successfully
3 days later got charge system fault
replaced battery
new battery 12.5 volts (measured at battery)when car off, drops to 11.5 after starting
2.5 volts between pos alternator terminal and alternator case when running
removed alternator, cleaned it's mounting points, cleaned the two grounds just behind the headlights(they weren't corroded)
took alternator to copper state alternator service- they spun the thing and got perfect output numbers.

my guess is the car is not telling the alternator to regulate voltage correctly since the alternator test was ok? faulty wiring in the plug that inserts into the alternator? thanks in advance
UPDATE- with engine running, voltage drop from red alternator wire to positive side of battery 10 volts. according to Mr Curlee this is bad. I will hunt for problem near starter solenoid.....
UPDATE- put jumper cable from red alternator terminal to positive battery terminal- now battery charges with motor running- voltage at battery up from 12.3--> 14.5
