Well if you dont like the noise then you can pull the belt off of the compressor because it is separate from you other accessories.

Ah who need ac it just robs power from your motor
I actually ran without air in my camaro for 2 years, I just kept the top down 99% of the time and it wasnt bad, but when it rained that was a different story.

haha i went all last summer without A/C. it was pretty bad. had the targa off most of the time. how much power do you think it takes?

At most I would bet its good for 5 hp at the wheels. So thats nothing you will even feel but you may get better gas mileage with the belt off, I know when the clutch is engaged and you have the ac on you will notice a drop in gas mileage but with it just freewheeling it cant pull that much i wouldnt think.

When the belt auto tensioners go bad, they start to lean, and so the belt runs across them in an "untrue" way. That makes the noise until the belt gets greasy (hot) enough to be quiet.
