Default Headlight Problem not the gear! Please Help Me!

I replaced both headlight gears with brass gears about a year ago and everything has worked great until recently.

My passenger side headlight is not raising properly. It will go about half way up then pause then go all the way up. A few times it did not go up at all, until I turned the lights off then on again. It also seems the motor keeps spinning on the passenger side once the light is down but does not have any sound of a binding gear or anything stripped. The little **** on the back of the motor just keeps spinning for about 5 seconds more.

I decided to try and diagnose the problem. After inspecting it I tried to turn the little **** on the back of the motor to raise the light and it spins freely and seems like it does nothing. Now when I turn the lights on the passenger light only goes up about halfway and the motor keeps running, or at least the little **** I turned keeps turning about 5 seconds more.

What the hell do I do now? Please help, I'm so frustrated with this car.

Thanks.

Make sure the gear case didn't come un-glued, and seperate.

One of the gear providers (http://www.rodneydickman.com/catalog/index.php) has a bracket for sale that helps a lot.

Here is the $7.00 bracket:

Thanks! It appears that the case is still intact, although it does have a little play if I push on it. Seems like it could use the brace. I believe my kit came with it but I did not use it for whatever dumb *** reason I might have had! Could this really be the cause? It seems like it's still together for the most part.

I'm not sure if I can add the brace with the light still in the car, but I sure hope so. Any other tips or ideas?

Did the gear come with a rubber insert? If so, that could have failed letting the motor spin free a bit.

Also, the gear is brass which is fairly soft. If the motor get's too much power it could still damage the gear.

Oldvetter you are correct! It's the brace that I need to add. I wedged a small screwdriver handle between the engine hood support and the side of the motor case and the lights went up perfect! Now I'm just kicking myself that I did not add the brace in the first place!

I could be a bubba and leave the handle wedged in there but I promise I won't! Thank you both for your replies!

My bet is "its the brace" or lack of a brace. The brace holds the drive gear exactly in the middle of the case.
