Default got a few questions, need some help?????

I have a 2000 vert with a ls1, hot cam, 160 Tstat, coolant bypass, lg lt headers, xpipe and off road pipes, slp powerflow exhaust, crane gold 1.7 rockers, honker intake and ls6 manifold. and i am looking to get a set of heads for cheap and was wondering if i should just go with the ls6 243 heads? and what info some of you may have on them? also what kind of power should i expect out of all the mods i have on now, and then with the heads on? (just started building the car havent got a tune yet)

1i have a problem with my lights dimming every time my sound system hits is there anything i can do to fix it??

2what kind of gears should i put,i have a automatic and its my every day driver so im looking for a good street set up any thoughts??

3 what is the purpose of a underdrive pulley? and should i get one??

4 should i change the lifters when i do the heads??

5 are steel retainers good or do i have to get titanium??

6 is a new chain good or do i have to get a double chain set up??

7 and finally what else should i do to the car for more power??

THANK YOU!!!

1i have a problem with my lights dimming every time my sound system hits is there anything i can do to fix it?? Check your grounds.

2what kind of gears should i put,i have a automatic and its my every day driver so im looking for a good street set up any thoughts?? 3.42 seems to be really popular with the A4 crowd

3 what is the purpose of a underdrive pulley? and should i get one?? It drivers the accessories slower, thereby allowing the engine to make more HP. If you're having troubles with the lights dimming when the stereo is loud - I would advise against it.

4 should i change the lifters when i do the heads?? Not really necessary - unless you plan to track your car a lot

5 are steel retainers good or do i have to get titanium?? Titanium are lighter and stronger. They usually come with a spring kit. You will want a new spring kit with the heads

6 is a new chain good or do i have to get a double chain set up?? just for pease of mind. You will have the whole thing apart - now is the time to do it.

7 and finally what else should i do to the car for more power?? what ever your budget allows.

THANK YOU!!!
The cam is underwhelming. if you're going through the trouble of installing a new cam - do some more research and get something that makes more power but is still street friendly.

Best of success with your project.

2what kind of gears should i put,i have a automatic and its my every day driver so im looking for a good street set up any thoughts?? I agree with the 3.42 idea

3 what is the purpose of a underdrive pulley? and should i get one?? Same principle as changing the rear end gears; takes less power to spin the accessories.

4 should i change the lifters when i do the heads?? No need. But there are some nifty options should you choose to. The lifter for the CTS-V racing whatever engine are good to 8,500 rpm (if you plan on getting that crazy) Also, you could get a set of Comp Cams lifters that help against "pump-up" and subsequent valve float. Again, no real need at this point.

5 are steel retainers good or do i have to get titanium?? less weight is always good, but your set-up doesn't really require titanium. If you have the money, do it, if not, don't. If you're not using the light weight LS6 valves, then not a lot of sense using titanium goodies. If you're using the LS6 valves then compliment them with the light weight goodies. note: not all 243 heads have the light weight valves

6 is a new chain good or do i have to get a double chain set up?? OEM chain is strong, just replace with new while in there. Upgrade if you want though, can't hurt.

7 and finally what else should i do to the car for more power?? Comp Cams LSr camshaft (I'm a fan of Comp Cams, lol ). Have the heads port and polished and blend the short-side radius.
Have fun!

Think about another cam. Your car should work well with a 224-228@ 113-4, and about .580lift. Way better than a GM hot cam, IMO. Of course, good springs, and get the Ti retainers.

I had a 224/230 .585/.595 113 cam put in about 4 months ago. I used new, stock 243 heads. Upgraded the pulley, timing chain, and oil pump.

The car is an 03 A4 Coupe, 3:42 gears and all of the "bolt-on mods". I ended up with 416 rwhp and 392 rwtq, a sweet sounding lope. Car runs like the proverbial "raped ape".
