Default 59cc heads...

Looking at a set of ported 243's that have 59cc chambers. Just wondering what issues I may run into if I pick these up. What compression ration would that put a stock ls1 at? Would it be OK on pump gas 92-93 octane. Any fly cutting needed? I do not have a cam yet, but would be buying and installing it with the heads. If so is it easily offset with using thicker head gaskets to get them back closer to the stock cc for these heads.

Pump gas should be fine with those heads.
Talk to your tuner and/or whomever you're getting the cam from. They should be able to tell you if you need to fly cut.
For what it's worth, fly cutting is no big deal.

With 59cc chambers the compression will be at 11.1:1. Pump gas will work no problem on that kind of compression. Flycutting will depend on the size of your cam. Do you know the specs? Its always best to measure piston to valve before actually firing the motor once you get the cam in.

Currently running the stock ls1 cam, but if I get the heads I would most likely install something when I did the heads. Would thinkn I woiuld have something around 580/225 but not sure. I'm still used to ford 302 cams so small ls1 cams still seem fairly large to me when looking at the specs.

I would say something around 228ish, or go big and get a MS3. I love the sound of mine!

Texas Speed has a great selection of cams - from mild to wild...

As do other vendors on here. look around and ask on here... you'll get lots of different advice. there are a lot of videos on youtube of different cams as well.

LS6 243 castings come with 64cc chambers. I would ask how the seller how they achieved 59cc, weld build-up or shaving. If they were shaved I suggest you check for the desired push rod length with the push rod length checking tool, you may have to vary it to maintain optimum lifter pre-load.
