Default 03 drivers power window issue

My power window on the drivers side has an issue. I have not found an old thread that matched the symptons.

When I press the down button it will only go down a little ways. Nothing happens if I keep pushing it. Now if I push the up button just a little then it will allow it to go down further or sometimes all the way. If it won't go all the way I just keep going up just a little and then down. When going down it also makes a sound like plastic gears not liking each other. On the way up it has no issues at all.

I thought it might have something to do with some sort of down limit switch? Can you reprogram them? Someone I know, not a vette said that you could program them by getting it all the way to the down positon and then holding the button down for 10 seconds. I have never hurd of this?

Thoughts?

The window is run by the window regulator assembly and its not gears. Rather, its a steel cable. Open your door and look on the two ends for the cable possibly coming off the rails otherwise the cable is frayed and jamming things. The only fix for this is replacing the assembly.

Just got the panel off so I can inspect inside. Nothing appears to be wrong with the cables.

Now somthing different. The window moves up and down but makes that scratching metal to metal sound. I did notice that towards the rear of the window there is a rub mark from the rear roller? This car has only 15,000 miles on it. Thoughts?

Also, is there a way to run the window up and down without having the door panel attached? Very dificult to inspect while holding door panel, and pushing button.

Any help would be appreciated.
