Last week a friend following me on the Autobahn told me that my passenger side tips were jiggling up and down. I put the car on a rack and took a look. Just below the weld (where the exhaust enters and the tips exit) was a three inch crack. Evidently, the metal at that point was thin or weak and over the past year gravity took its toll.
I have contacted Corsa to see what they will do. Since I live in Germany and drive the car every day, taking one side off and sending it in is not really an option.
I have thought about getting it welded, but I don't think that would be a total solution if the metal being welded is thin.
Anybody else have this problem? Anyone have any recommendations?
By the way, as far as I know, the tips have never been stressed by any twisting or pulling beyond normal operation. When the system was installed the tips lined up pretty good just by moving the mufflers before tightening the clamps. When I put the X-pipe on the adjustment was even easier. I had heard of people needing to bend the tips to get them to line up.
Shawn.... L.A.P.D........ Stinger....... Quick!
Gotta get to bed early tonight! Tomorrow is Autocross day with the Porsche club at Sembach.... first race of the season..... hope those tips don't come off!
Had same problem on drivers side. The tips would jiggle, internal brace was broken, I believe. Can't really be fixed without disassembling the muffler. Corsa sent replacements (both sides) no problem. I had an early set ('98) the design was changed to prevent this on later versions. I didn't have the crack but I'm sure if I had let it go longer it would have. My feeling is rewelding the outside doesn't really address the real problem and ultimately won't fix the problem. I'd give them a call or email, they're pretty good to work with.
