Default hvac problem

first the coolant temp sensor and now this. my C5 is really testing me. could it know that I've been having C6 thoughts lately? I wish I could convince it there's no way that's happening, not for a long time anyway!

this is the second time this has happened. I have to assume it wasn't going for the whole drive cycle but I really don't know. climte control appears to work. I was able to adjust the fan speed and when I requested airflow out of different vents it obeyed my commands. I could go from upper vents to lower, all worked. but...I had cold air, freezing cold air, blowing out on the passenger's side. it just started and I felt like what was a draft, checked and was feeling freezing air on the passenger's side only. it was below 20F outside, so I'm sure it was just outside air.
the heater was working, my side was blowing hot just as I requested. using the passenger's **** had no effect.
restarting the car however fixed the problem. as soon as I started it back up the passenger's side was warm again. this is the second time this happened. and the restart fixed it the first time also. could I be looking at a CC unit going bad? couldn't be a vacuum problem could it? that wouldn't be fixed by a restart.

other odd problems with hvac that might be related (who knows)
the other day after the oil temp issue while I was reading the codes I had the ignition on and the engine off. I heard a noise coming from in the dash. sounded like the...well whatever they are that direct airflow were moving all by themselves. the climate control was turned off. I have no idea what was causing it.

other thing that happened years ago. one day the CC malfunctioned, air was blowing out of the upper vents and would not respond to my command to go to the floor. I know that broken vac lines can do this. but once again after I restarted the car it was fine. never had that particular problem again.

I love this car but sometimes patience wears thin...please help!

amazing the coincidences you see sometimes on this forum. is this my problem?

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...actuators.html

I guess it would be the passenger's side with the issue right?

only thing is last time I checked which was a day or two ago, there were no such codes. also is it normal for the symptoms to come and go? my car's a 99. so if they did update the software in the hvac controller mine's probably the old version.

had the problem today, time before was several weeks ago. no issues in between.

just checked...there are no HVAC codes.

I also have not reset power to anything recently. I have unplugged the HVAC controller several times while doing stereo mods and other stuff, but its been a while since its been unplugged.

now in another uncool twist when I went to reverify the codes, I'm hearing a high pitched whining sound coming from somewhere in the dash. what the heck is going on with this thing? it was soft enough I would not have been able to hear it once the engine is running.

You can control the air from head to head/feet to feet to feet/defrost to defrost and ZERO air is coming out of the head (upper) vents when you have it set on feet(lower)?

I think so, I'd have to check again to be sure. I'm not sure if I get absolutely zero air out of the top when its set to floor, but if any is flowing out its very very little. Honestly I think I've tried to check that before and couldn't determine if there was air coming out of the vents or not. virtually none if there was any.

Is it possible the the passenger side actuator door is just sticking due to the cold?( I know I feel that way when I visit my mom in Nebraska during the winter). And after it warms up, and you do a restart while it is warm it re-sets and responds like it should. And, since there are no codes indicating anything is wrong?

Sounds like the passenger side actuator. You can try pulling whatever fuse it is, don't remember this second...sorry, to re-index the hvac

just pulling the fuse will do it? fuse for HVAC or is there one for the actuator?

Fuse number 27 is the one you want to pull.(AC system fuse) I would leave it out for awhile say overnight..then pop it back in and see if the issue is fixed.

This does work a surprising amount of the time it seems..you still may have an actuator issue that isn't throwing a code?? but the fuse is quick and easy so do that first..

And on the air, you've done enough..it would be noticeable if that vacuum line was broken or not connected. Basically the air is 33 percent out of each vent (feet, head, defrost) no matter what setting you have it on...so you would know.

Thanks! I'll give it a try this weekend. hopefully the problem won't return.

I've got issues on the driver's side acuator and just ordered one so due to my codes 361 and 363, I'm replacing it. Re-indexing didn't fix mine unfortunately. In my case, it sure looks like I've got to disassemble everything to get to it but others have said its not needed....we'll see.

Nah Tim, it keeps on happening as in finding new things. I'll have this back together this morning. Next on the agenda is a bad tps transmitter. Who knows what else after this.

Thanks for the wishes but not so much.

happened again today. I didn't get a chance to try the fuse over the weekend, but I'm going to try it now. weather says snow tomorrow so the vette stays home.

trip started out fine. no issues. CC on automatic. about 15 minutes into the trip I suddenly start to feel chilly. I felt the passenger's vents. I can't feel any air flowing out, but I can feel the vent louvers themselves and they are cold. I switched it to upper vents only and freezing air came pouring out. driver's side was warm, but not "hot" I'd say. restarted teh car at a stopsign and the heat immediately came back on the passenger's side. about 5 minutes later, heat disappears and 13 degree air is once again pouring into the cabin. I just turned it off at this point and when I got home I restarted it again, warm air returned immediately.

I love this thing but my C5 is really starting to get me angry now. is this consistent with any known issues with the blend doors and actuators and everything

it was 13 when I started off, 9 by the time I got home. this morning I had no issues at all, it started out at 0 and was -1 by the time I got to work (all *F)

#27 is out and laying in the floor. HVAC panel's back lights went out so I assume that means I'm good. I'll put it back in tomorrow. shouldn't take nearly that long for it to reset, I'm sure its ready to go now, but since it was suggested to do so...I'll see if it works. still really interested in any other info on possible fixes or similar problems with others.

a problem or two I can handle, when it seems like its one thing right after another it starts to get difficult. I used up all my patience with a computer that has been malfunctioning for over a year.
