I just bought a 02 z06 and I have some questions. First how do you stop that annoying 1 to 4 shifting!? Its driving me nutz. Also I have a light engine ticking, its not a bad bearing sound, and I hear it when driving, but not when I stick my head under the hood. Is this a common problem I just need to get used to, you can barely hear it. Thanks
First of all, congratulations on your Z06 purchase. You are going to have a permanent smile on your face before too long.
I would suggest getting a skip shift eliminator so that you aren't forced to do the 1 - 4 shift with light or moderate accelerations. You can order one from almost any online Corvette store. All you'll have to do is lift the rear of the car and plug it into a wire by the transmission.
As far as the engine ticking goes, it is probably normal. Most people describe the LS6 as sounding like a sewing machine because of the fuel injectors. The ticking is usually loudest around 2000 RPM in most cases. However, it might not be a bad idea to have another Z06 owner in your area listen to your car just to be sure.
As a side note, if your car's steering column still locks when the ignition is off, make sure you purchase and install a CLB (column lock bypass). Do this yourself. Don't let a dealership perform the computer flash that is part of GM's column lock recall.
A sewing machine is exactly what is sounds like and yea around 2000 rpm is the most noticeable. What does the column lock bypass do? I haven't had it lock up im just curious.
