Automatic shifter problem
On my 01 automatic shifter ****, the center button has popped up and won't lock down in place. I'm driving with masking tape over the top of it. It appears to be actually a trim cover for the real button which is underneath. That button, spring and small center pin tried to escape as well. I understand how the **** assembly is removed with the "staple" but haven't disassembled it yet. Any info on what is wrong here?

The **** on an automatic is held on by a large staple. Try removing the **** and get a replacement. This one sounds to be broken. In fact, I think I still have my OEM ****, since I replaced mine. Just put the shifter down on 1st gear, with the motor off, then use a small screw driver to remove the staple in the back side of the ****. Use pliers to pull it out after you get it started.
