That sounds likely. Go out and look at the car in the dark, see if you can spot any lights (interior, glove box, under the hood etc.) on.

Make sure when you close your hatch that you have a door open. On mine the hatch looks shut but it's not. If I open a door it closes properly.

I'm at work now and do not have access to the service manual. As soon as I get home I'll look it up and give you a cut and paste drawing. Some of the service manuals can be downloaded on line if you need one.

the latches are under the panels on each side of the rear compartment. each latch has a switch and electrical connector.

if these are not adjusted correctly the rear compartment lights will remain on. Also check the strikers on the far outside edges of the hatch and make sure they are not missing or broken. if those lights are not staying on the rear latches are not the problem.

Latch Adjustment - Rear Lift Window Panel
Minor Adjustment

Loosen the latch mounting bolts.
Reposition the latch. Refer to Latch Replacement - Rear Lift Window Panel .

Major Adjustment

Loosen the latch bracket mounting bolts.
Reposition the bracket. Refer to Latch Bracket Replacement - Rear Lift Window Panel .
