Our cam only kit installed out the door including all the parts needed(cam, pushrods, valvesprings, etc) and a tune is $2195.00 as well. I would say they are close.

The OP's quote is $500 higher than yours. Sorry, 12 hours for a cam swap is crazy.
Here is a screen shot from All Data on wha they say the shops should charge:
Chirs,
Thanks for the info but at the risk of sounding ignorant....how do I interpret the chart? I see the cam is $293.69 But I don't understand the labor. Is that 15.2 hrs labor under warranty and 20.2 hrs not under warranty? Help me understand.

Your understanding it correctly. The not under warrranty
or "customer pay" table will fluctuate per manual and shop.

Thanks Jirasvet for clearing that up.
Not having the mechanical skills it takes to tackle this job myself, I guess, then based on the table, the 12 hour labor charge, even though it is alot, is reasonable and in the ballpark.

My guess...that estimate involves pulling the heads to facilitate the cam change........which I doubt most shops do, especially when the lifters are not being changed.
I don't understand them quotes for how long it should take...Went to a shop today because I needed a new valve cover gasket (would have done it by myself but I was an hr from home and oil was leaking onto my headers making a nice smoke screen on the freeway ) anyway....they wanted like 1.3 hrs to replace ONE valve cover gasket....its takes like litterally 10 mins to do. WTF
