I think they will clear the brakes, but the offset in the rear is different so the wheels will fit slightly inside the fender instead of flush. There are pics on here of people who have done it. personally it would drive me crazy.
I bought my 97 with a set of C6 5 spokes on it. It looks nice (I can send you pics, but not sure how to post them). I can see the offset issue that people mention, but if you are not planning on going with more than a 295 tire, I dont think you will have any issues.
the rear tire can slightly run the fender. To get around it and get rid of the inline skate look you can add 1/4" spacer or use a 1" wheel adapter which is a bit safer that bolts onto your existing stock lugs to create the extension.
Using wheel spacers alone can be dangerous as it creates two stress points on the lugs. 1/4" spacer may not be as scary but is the max you can go and still have 5 threads of bolt turn left over.
Did you add the spacers just for looks or was there a problem? BTW, nice writeup!
I don't know your brake combo but I just read another members note that he ran no spacers, just curious.

The front C6 wheels have the same offset as C5 wheels, so no spacers are needed.
The rears required a 1/4" spacer to bring the tires out flush with the fender. This was purely for cosmetics, in my case, since I already had adequate inner fender liner clearance without using any spacers.
My brake calipers are the factory originals, and the tires are stock C6 18"-19" sizes.
