Default Unassembled heads...

Picked up a set of ported 243 the other day and am wondering on a few things. I plan on picking up a cam and appropriate springs for them. On the valves and rockers what is the general consensus? Should I pull the valves and rockers from my 241's? Should I pick up new valves? Seems like the stock rockers are used fairly often with the LS1's. Any other recommendations? Not going with a huge build. Think these heads are a fairly mild port, and I think I'd go with a Cam around 228 duration and 580ish lift.

IMO Definitely get new valves,ls6 style, some will say use your stock rockers, I like a full roller rocker.

Depends on your budget, you could just reface your LS1 valves and use the stock rockers.
Or you could spend the big bucks for the LS6 valves that are light weight and sodium filled and go to full roller rockers.
Then you will need to set the wipe pattern and adjust the pushrod length.
The only reason I'd go to the RR is if your heads have bronze guides otherwise the stockers will be fine.
There is also the stock 241 valves which would be less expensive and do the same job.
At any rate you will need to at least check for the correct length push rod so just order a checker from comp cams now unless you have one.
Good luck on your build.

I figured getting the LS6's would be pricey and if the LS1's are the same as the LS2 that come in the same head I might just go budget and use them. The car only has 25,000 miles on it. And it's not like I'm going to get any money for the 241's assembled. Most likely get more money for aluminum scrap than selling them. I still have a while to decide the direction and what people with LS motors typically do. Sounds like most keep the rockers.

Update and Questions...

I have got together a set of Patriot Gold Extreme springs and a set of Manley Race-flo Intake Valves. The springs are most likely overkill since I plan on running something around a 228R for a cam, but I got them for a steal. With this heavy of a spring should I run LS7 or better lifters and new pushrods? I originally planned on doing a budget build, but I want to do things right. The car only has 26,000 miles on it so all the original parts should be in good shape.

You definitely want better after market hardened push rods when upgrading springs.
IIRC the LS7 lifter is now the replacement part for all LSX lifters,
I know somebody will correct me if I am wrong. IMO since you have the heads off I would use a better lifter.

What are your springs rated at?
