since i got my car about a year ago now i have tried to find some way to use jack stands the safest way possible and thinking of ways to improve how they seat on the frame. finally after some digging on the internet for the right stand then using an old thread or two on hockey pucks, i think i have found the winner. thought i would share for anyone else who was looking for a similar setup.
as you can see in the last picture as you jack up or let down the car the stand free floats in its base because of the eyebolts, then when you have it where you want it you insert the safety pin. the eyebolts are screwed to the stand top by slightly grinding 2 sides of the nut, this prevents you from using the top hole stop but you can let it seat in the base for the lowest height. also in the event the jack were to slip it would stop even if not yet safety pinned by the top of the base (may not totally prevent damage but certainly wouldn't let rotors crash to the ground)
Nice idea. The only thing I would worry about is lifting the car to just the right height to thread the pin in. I always seem to have one side slightly higher than the other so if I got the pin in on one side it would most likely not be lined up on the other.
If you could get rid of the pin and make them adjust to any height without possibility of slip that would be even better!

yeah the limited selection of pinning points was the only draw back but my shop is level and the couple of times i've used them it has worked well.......i trust these a lot more than the standard jack stands.
in the end its just a temporary fix until i get the bendpak.
Timely thread. I have always used the hockey pucks without the alignment eyebolts, and always considered them safe, as they dug into the jack stand or the jack pad pretty well.
But last week I was working on the sister's Audi, and spilled a bit of brake fluid down onto the frame. I happened to place the jack with the hockey pad on the wet spot on the frame, and it slipped right off with the car jacked halfway up! Luckily it wedged on a fairly strong floor support and no harm done.
Been rethinking the process ever since.
