Column locked -- simple fix

As the result of a mishap last Saturday I had to be pulled out of a ditch. The infamous column lock locked up. The fix was to just jack up the front end and have my son work the tires back & forth -- very little movement but just enough to unlock the column lock. It is working fine now. Just thought this might be of interest to anyone who has not bypassed the column lock at this late date. :D:D

The best fix is to by-pass the stupid thing and not worry about it ever again.

Glad it worked out but it'll happen again.

i have not yet done this, and i'm sure it is a dupe, but can you tell me what is involved as well as the history of the problem?

I think is only on early C5's.......

Your probably one of the lucky ones -- GM has recalled, I believe all 98 & 99s and at least part of the 2000 models and will fix free of charge. Mine was a 97 and I am still waiting on the recall.
