2000 C5, ~29000 miles. Just before winterization, it started throwing a P410 code, indicating a problem with the secondary air injection. system. I got as far as pulling the hose apart (near alternator) from the secondary air pump. There appears to be air flowing towards the manifolds from the air injection pump at start up. From there I stopped and put it up for winter and said I'd deal with in the spring.
Other than thinking about the problem, I really have done nothing more since the car is "sleeping". I've read about check valves seizing or getting brittle, but if it was a check valve I think I would have got a code specific to right or left bank, versus P410 I'm close to the end of my technical limits on this one. Any insight you can provide would be appreciated.
I just posted this a little bit ago and then saw your post here so I figured I would run it by you for your 2 cents on the matter! Thanks!
Every time it rains - my battery goes dead
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any suggestions on how to figure out what's causing my battery to be drained / ruined every time it rains? And before I get "FLOODED" with rain jokes (no pun intended) let me just say this upfront: work is slow in the construction industry, I'm unemployed again at the moment, this 1999 Z51 C5 is my one and only vehicle and I've replaced THREE batteries in the last four months! I could really use some constructive input on this battery draining scenario because I've been searching for new possibilities for this ongoing issue without any success.
It will start up just fine and not have a single problem for weeks, then I get instant situation - just add water! I've disabled all of the "Cool Options" on the dash - twilight headlights, passive alarm, auto seat adjust, etc... Removed fuses to cargo lights, vanity mirrors - you name it! If I didn't need it - I deleted it!! I was even disconnecting my battery everywhere I went for a few days after we would get more than 20 drops in a 12" circle until I felt safe it had dried out - which obviously did no good as I'm sure I'll be bumming a ride back down to Wal-Mart tomorrow for yet another battery! I have a great charger / tester and after 5 hours it's only reading 60% on a 2 week old battery!
I honestly can not afford to take this to a Chevrolet dealer or even a mobile mechanic on my $360 per week Unemployment benefits - I have got to find a way to repair this myself and I am an ironworker not a mechanic in even the most liberal sense of the word. I've got tools and am not afraid to sail uncharted waters - I'm just out of any ideas and available funds and these batteries aren't the only thing that's getting drained every time I turn around...
After changing the air pump and driver side air check valve, and spraying the passenger side check valve, my 99 Coupe 0410 turned out to be the air pump relay in the engine fuse box. Don't remember the relay number but you'll see it, just look at the key code on the cover. There are several relays that are the same and swap two, just remember which two were swapped. My car has fog lights and it was a great way to confirm the bad relay and that the problem was fixed. They are about $15 at parts store.
BTW, when I got 0410 I paid $105 for a dealer to tell me I needed to change the passenger check valve for $600 more. Since it was only emissions (and $600), I decided to look at it myself. Never really decided if the dealer knew if it was the relay and was ripping me off or if they were just dumber than me. And lastly you said there 'appears to be air flowing towards the manifold'. If the pump was on and you disconnected the air hose, you'd be saying there is definitely air flowing, no mistaking it. good luck.

What shutoff valve? Is that a mod? There are no shut off valves between air pump and air check valves.

Check valves; replace!!!
Car sits, water/corrosion, valve fails; easy to do on drivers side
Run the codes again, it tells you left or right bank
