Default Half Shaft Question

Anybody have any luck with Auto Zone and their "lifetime" half shafts for $80.00? Where best to get replacements or rebuild these things for a close to stock 01 coupe? I want to replace once and not look back thanks!

I don't know about Auto Zone but I have had good luck with one from Advance Auto.

Most likely Advance and Autozone sell the same axle. I was informed about this when I purchased a fuel pump for a truck recently, many of their suppliers are the same.

An FYI on this subject: the boots on some aftermarket half-shafts are not a stiff as the OEM parts. Under extreme usage (i.e. high speed race tracks) the boots expand too much and can contact things, like your brake lines. A buddy of mine installed brand-new aftermarket half-shafts (I don't know the brand). Soon after we went to a track day at Summit Point, WV, which has about 130MPH front straight. He came into the paddock after a session with grease all over one side of the rear end, mainly up in the wheel well. We took off the wheel and found the boot of the half-shaft was cut from contacting something, most likely the brake line (which was not damaged). He went back to OEM units.

The aftermarket rebuilds may be fine for a street driven car, but if you're going anywhere near a track go back to OEMs.

There has been enough negative feedback from forum members in regards to these after market axles for me not to want to use them in competitive type, driving situations.
