Finally found a place (Canadian Based) that carries a full set, and at a great price (Far Better than Tire Rack - who only had Lefts but no Rights anyway)!!!. In fact, I got lucky. Was gonna order them Friday but the place gave me conflicting inventory info - said I had to call Back Monday. So I go on line today and notice that the price of each tire goes up $6-$7 - WTF??? So I call them to confirm inventory and explain my story, asking for the old price.
Fortunately, they accomodated me, giving me them for the price of Fridays quote ($1183 incl shipping).
Can't wait to get rid of these runcraps!!! Can't even make a decent semi-high speed turn without sliding nowadays. It gets embarrasing when other drivers see a C5 not handling well. The amazing thing is I still have plenty of tread on the runcraps (Only 8K miles)
I loved my KD's they are basically R1 compound with alot more tread. I just wished they would have made them in 335/30 18's. I have to run Michelins now.
Mark, you wont regret going with the KD's!!
Wait until you feel what performance and ride you were missing out on with the Runflats! There will be no turning back! :D
Well I know that any tire (NITTOS, PILOTS, S03's etc) besides the runflats will yield a substantial improvement. But I am hoping the KD's give me the STICK that so many have talked about. So I figured for another $350, WTF? Afterall, its a $46K car right? I'm sure they'll be great. We'll have to cross our fingers for flats though. And I'll have to find someone local to help me with with lowering 'cause I'll want to waste no time in taking care of that .35" wheel-well space. Anyway, thanks again for your help. BTW, did you remove that 3-piece rubber in the front after you lowered it?
I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Wha't a KD? From the posting I thing they are some non standard tires.
Dick,
The KD is a BF-Goodrich dry-weather non-runflat tire. They should not be confused with the BF Goodrich KDW's or the SSS.
Some feel the KD's are the best performance dry-weather street tires available without going to racing tires. But you may sacrifice some treadwear, all-season capabilities (these are definitely not snow tires!) and perhaps a little comfort (when compared to other non-runflats) for their great
performance. You'll be giving up $$$ too. If they are as good as what others say, they are a perfect fit for me because of my geographical location, the fact that I tend to corner hard and especially since she's not a daily driver (just in case treadwear is the pits).
When are the 547s coming to go with the new tires??? ;) :D
Hey Doug,
It was a pleasure to meet you too Doug. As far as the HRE's, well, normally I would take a trip to Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun casino and get them damn 547's. But that would also risk losing one or both of the T's in my anxiously-awaiting TT and that aint gonna happen.
Your PRT's really sounded nice. I'm glad I had a chance to listen to them 'cause an exhaust really wasn't on my mod list but it is now. If I see a can't-turn-down price on the PRT's, I'll grab a set before the TT. Else, it will be after. Still not sure about the HALS's but it was nice to feel that there really was a big difference in your settings, unlike those cheap suspension buttons that you see in so many cars. BTW, I was glad to be able to listen to your Hotchkis too (just kidding). Thanks for taking the time in showing me all your mods. Car looks real nice, especially that hood.
Runflats are called KD SSS and are the only KDs in stock sizes. If you keep your stock rims they are your only real choice because there is no other KD that will fit on either the front or back (I can't remember which).
They are a !@#$% to get a hold of right now. I have KD SSS and they are great. Wouldn't be good for dragging, but that isn't what they are for. They have excellent sidewall strenght, great for cornering.
I just put a fresh set of KDs on my HREs saturday. Even with big HP, once they are warm these babies really hold the road if I let them. :D
Good find on the tires, they were hard to find for me as well!
enjoy,
JB
I'm buying tire's soon, it's down to BFG KD's or YOK AVS. What do think, the YOK's are alittle less money but for a couple hundred buck's and if the traction is superior then my mind is made up.
Run flats do not work well with my mods.... thank's
Runflats are called KD SSS and are the only KDs in stock sizes. If you keep your stock rims they are your only real choice because there is no other KD that will fit on either the front or back (I can't remember which).
well, you are almost correct. The front KD's do come in the stock 245/45/17's - the rears do not. 295/35/18 is the next size. However, the 295's will fit on the stock rims without any real issues. Aside from istenting to many CF members on this issue who havce doen this, I also checked with the local tire store just to make sure (not that I don't trust the CF Members) and he's done a few of these sizes C5 Factory rims. The only issue to some is appearance. To most, however, the appearance is not bad at all.
As far as the fronts, the front stock sizes are hard to find as well. However, the 255/40/17's are a similar solution like the rears and fall within (even more so) the required tire parameters that go on the rim. Some also would go the 255/40 in the front just to stay proportionate to the rear anyway even if the stock sizes for teh front were available.
The only issue that I had was adding .35" of wheel well space. But this will disappear when the car is lowered anyway.
So A 100% perfect stock fit? No, not really. But the difference to most seems insignificant and the performance is worth it. I'll find out shortly.
BTW, did you remove that 3-piece rubber in the front after you lowered it?
No, I left the 3 piece rubber air damn on the front of the car after lowering. It does eventually get quite beat up looking from dragging it when entering and leaving some driveways. I don't think you are going to lower your car as much as mine so you shouldnt have any worries. I just replaced the center air dam on my car and am going to cut an inch off of it so there is a bit less dragging.
Remember that the KDWS & KDW are completely different compounds then the KD's. You will not get the same traction and handling out of the KDW/KDSSS as you will with the straight KD's. Any doubts call the John at CCW or (Luke) Tirerack.
