After having replaced the OEM headlight motor gears in my '02, with new aluminum ones, I've not been successful in keeping the motor halves together. I first used epoxy - twice, then when that failed to work, I used J-B Weld. The motor halves keep separating. The gears seem to mesh well, so I can't think of why God has frowned on me about this...
Has anyone else had this problem, then come up with a solution?
Thanks a whole lot for your quick response. I can make those brackets.
Now, how about those damned winking lights - you know, when you turn the lights off and one of them opens back up a few inches.?
I seem to remember someone telling me it's caused by the nylon bumpers wearing out. Well, I've been fighting those things for several months. I'll change them around and fix the problem for a while, then one will become worn out and the light will start winking again. I've even tried replacing them with short lengths of fuel line.
Are these little bumpers wearing prematurely due to some other mechanical problem? Is it only my car that hates me enough to cause these continuous irritating problems?
Try this, go to C5 "Tech/Performance" then do a search for "Headlight gear fix (highly pictorialized)". That is the post that Patches put up about the headlight repair and the piece he made to hold the two halves together. Hope this works. Patches has put some great well detailed and pictorialized on here.
