Default 3.73's installed

Finally got around to installing the 3.73's I got on the GP from LAPD in January. Special thanks to Jim VanDorn at Automasters in Palm Desert CA for the install. Joe Delara, the mechanic who did the install did a great job.

I didn't know what to expect since it seemed to me to not be that much of a jump from the stock gears to the 3.73's. Though, for the most part, I took it easy on them until the break in, I did jump on them a couple of times. Let me just say the both Jim and Joe were right. They told me the single best thing you can do to improve performance is add a set of gears. I'm very pleased with the results to say the least. The car is noticeably quicker. Particularly in second and third. Pulls very hard. Joe told me to go with stock gear oil to break the gears in then switch to Redline. Much lesser chance of the diff becoming noisy. So far so good. However, my mileage has suffered. Can't seem to keep my foot out of it. :D

They say that the Z06 doesn't benefit from the 3.73 as much due to the different gearing  but what do "they" know???

Just wait until they are broke in -- you will be impressed. The car will be much more fun to drive. I just love mine that have been in over a year now.:D:D:D

I don't know who "they" are but I beg to differ. The shop that installed my gears also race a C5 in SCCA competition. They installed 3.73's in the race car and their driver noticed it immediately.

u can definetly notice a difference vs stock. Only problem now is I need wider tires cause in first gear I play the power drifting game. But it sure is a fun game.

I agree traction is a problem -- I lost it Saturday on dry pavement going over 30 mph when I stomped it, see http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=274556

How much gas mileage did you lose after putting in the 3.73 gears!

I had heard that the shorter gearing of the Z made traction difficult. Either way I am sure it's a blast. I know it was when I put 3.42's in my A4 :smash: :smash:

Moundir , i am getting a set of 4.11's installed this week...I'll let you know how it goes.
WCC is installing my gears , Cost of the gears are $1295.00..I'm sure installation cost's will vary..But plan on something around $400 .

Mark -- congrats. I was in that purchase with you, and mine have been sitting in my office since they arrived. What's up with that?! Coincidentally, however, I am scheduled to have them put in tomorrow, and your post has just heightened by anticipation. :D :smash:

Any advice from you (or the others) on break-in manners and duration? Thanks.

Have fun but no hole shots for 500mi :cry

You just think it's torture now... Maybe it'd be better to let the wife drive it during break in.
