Default Red oil dripping in front of my c5

hey guys i searched a little but i did not find this yet, sorry if this is a dup... I have red oil dripping from the front of my car. I just had the brake controll module replace and it never leaked b4 the chevy dealer keeps telling me they can not find a thing. I am freaked cuz the brake and the powersterring levels are fine... what else can it be? the chevy dealer told me last time that it might be some accumulation from them installing the part... but it's about a 1/4 cup of stuff like 3 times i have cleaned up... seems like it's about a half quart by now.
i can't see that.

any body had this issue? thanks

the leak seems to be right in front. I cant really see anything myself... but that is when i stick my big head up under there with a flashlight... and the dealer has had it on a lift... ugh.

thanks in adnace and merry after christmas day. LOL

Do you have an automatic? Trans fluid is red and goes in to the radiator to be cooled, could be a leak there.

Exactly what I was thinking when he said Power Steering fluid level was okay.

Default Leak

Are you sure it is oil and not Antifreeze? With the motor not running. Take a drop light or good flashlight and look at the front of the engine behind the balancer. Or stick your fingers in to the front of the motor behind the balancer and see if it is wet. You could have a leaking WP gasket or WP.

Sounds like it is DexCool. Dexcool is oily when it comes out. I had the same issue this summer. It was the water pump that was leaking. Have them check it out.

I had a similar leak right after I cleaned and recharged my aftermarket intake filter. It was just the extra oil leaking from it. Could this be your problem?

I think you might have used a little more oil on your filter than you should have if it's leaking on the floor. Just a light mist is all you need. You might want to clean your MAF.

It's possible the power steering fluid has been leaking for a long time and accumulating in the boots. This is what happened to mine, it just one day leaked badly, but for years I always had to keep refilling my reservoir because it would go low even though it never leaked a drop on the ground.

WOW thanks everyone, I did smell it, and it's not coolant... and I had recharged my filter a few weeks abo, but it does not smell the same as the K&N filter. I wonder if it was PW fluid... I did notice a few weeks ago it was a little low but that was b4 i noticed any leaks... what did you do for the power steering leak

Got a reman steering rack from zip. Spent 2 days trying to get the old one out and the new one in. It was easier to replace the clutch and transmission in my Z06 that try to wrestle that sumbitch in. So far its been problem free! It $600+ to get a new one.

yeah. I never had any leaks untill that module was replaced... I have had it in to the dealer 3 times now and they keep saying they can't find a thing... I wonder if ASE really means anything any more, cuz they have had it on the lift 3 times and can't see a thing.

thanks again guys. i think your right tonight i drove it for a bit parked it and looked and there were 3 quarter sized dots of oil right under the rack...

I'm having a similar issue with my 98 M6..

smelled coolant (faintly) with no drips or spotting or puddles - nothing... decided to just keep an eye on it and monitor levels and any signs of leaks...

THEN-unrelated, but related....

I changed my trans fluid and diff oil (about a month and a half ago).

NOW I get a faint trans fluid smell in the cab at 'high' RPMs - any type of hard acceleration over ~3000rpms. It quickly dissipates, and I haven't noticed any leaks...

Could the coolant smell and trans fluid smell be related? Ya'think I'm dealing with the same original coolant 'seepage'?

I haven't taken it anywhere for a pressure test yet.. but I'm getting close...

6 year old thread... but, water pump leaks and leaking at the bottom of the reservoir tank are the most common...
