Default Dyno STD vs. SAE ??

I have been to Ed Wrights and Hogan's(B&B heads) both here in Tulsa to
dyno my car on two different occasions. Both printed me STD figures.

I asked John at Ed Wrights why STD, he said it is more accurate to
what my car is putting down.
So my question: Is the difference between STD and SAE only compensating
for temp, altitude and barometer ??

"Standard" dyno settings yield higher #s than SAE. Often, "Standard" is a tuner's sales tool--customers prefer higher #s for bragging rights. SAE, with a stated correction factor, on a Dynojet Chasis dyno is the way to go.

SAE is a Society of Automotive Engineers correction formula....

STD is some BS :bs type that allows for higher numbers

bring that baby to TX and go to one of our esteemed SAE dyno facilities ;)

thanks

Not necessarily true, it depends on where you dyno. At an altitude of around 5200 ft above sea level, my 99 FRC put down STD numbers of 267. SAE corrected was 316. So at different conditions than SAE, your numbers may be higher or lower depending on altitude, temp, humidity etc. That's why stock LS1's up this high run like 14 second 1/4 miles.

I would rather have normalised #'s with SAE

I did my last runs at MTI in Houston. There is more to doing a Dyno Run than meets the eye. The operator can make a difference, the Dyno itself, and environmentals. Bottom line use someone you trust, Ed and Hogans are Ok by me, but use the SAE numbers for comparison. If you want to see my MTI numbers, take a look in the performance section, I posted the charts there.

Good Luck :)
