Default Cam ?

Would a cam from a LS6 Z06 work in a 2001 LS1 Coupe and if so would the benifits be worth the swap.

Thanks,
Russell

Yes it will fit and no its not worth it. If you are going to take the time to do a cam swap put something bigger in. The gains from a LS6 cam will be very very small VS an aftermarket cam

Thanks that is just what I needed to know. I would like to have something a little more than stock but since I don't track my car I don't need something that sounds like the car is about to stall.

Some people put a big lift long duration cam in just for the lope sound. There is the high rpm high hp school of thought or something else to think about. What about a cam that makes low end torque and mid range hp. High rpms usually kill motors, what if you had a low end torque monster and had a flat torque curve out to about 5800 rpm. You would stay out of the kill zone and have very usable torque where you need it.......just say'n.

It's all about the combo. What are your current mods, and transmission type? Also rear gear ratio? The '02-4 Z cam is bigger than the '01, BTW.

Yes it it will, it's a very good cam but you will also need to replace the valve springs and some minor tuning to the PCM.

Thanks for the advice....the only mods I have is a Blackwing and I am about to put some headers on. It is a 6 speed with the factory gears I assume.

Thanks again,
Russell

It will fit without replacing the cylinder heads, however you will absolutely need different valve springs, push rods and a significant amount of PCM re-programming (tunning).
The OEM cylinder heads and valve train are designed for a maximum of .550" of lift. Any cam with valve lift above that is a waste on stock cylinder heads and sacrifices reliabilty.

With MUCH help from several CF members, my car just got a 228 230 585 588 113 lsa cam along with PG dual springs, etc. and a dyno tune.

TQ is awesome from 2000 thru 5500. Idle set at 850 and with my MN6, no drivability issues. Sounds SWEET too!

Other mods: VRB2, LT Hdrs and HF catback.

OP,

If you are going to all the trouble of a cam swap,,,go bigger than a stock Z06 cam!

You will be fine with the heads. Check out Texas-Speed.com. They have great cam kits. I got my MS3 kit from them a few years ago and its still running strong. My car is 420RWP on stock 241 heads.....

What cam duration and lift are you talking about?

Check out the ECS blower cam, or the LG Executive cam, Both are great cams, I have the ECS cam in my A4 and it idles nice at 575 rpms, They really do there job in the mid-high rpm ranges! go to you tube and listen to some of the cams!
