Just bought a 99 coupe and to my surprise it has a tape player! haha It also has a 10 disc changer in the trunk, but it doesn't work. I'd like to put a factory cd player in the dash, but just want to be sure if I buy one it will match up and fit. Do I need to buy any certain model or type? What years will work? My car has hud if that makes a difference.
No help here? I have found a few on the forum, but I don't believe I have a bose system and have been told that the bose head unit will not work properly if it's not a bose system. I'm assuming since it came w/ a tape player, it is not bose. Can anyone confirm this?

And how do you know the cd player doesn't work? Gotta fill it and let it read then push the aux/tape button. The 12 disc option gives you the bose 6 speaker option too.I like my tape system too put a cassette adapter in, tuck the wire along the bezel and My MP3 player inside the console and I have hours of music.

Because the cartridge won't even come out of the changer. You can hear it trying, it has power, but will not release. I'm not worried so much about the changer, just about getting an in dash cd player. I will never need cassettes. Are all changers bose systems?

Lot's of good info in audio.....from mild to wild. Just repost.
I just replaced the GM head unit with cassette player that came stock on my 98 convertible with a newer one with a single CD front loader. I purchased the unit from a CF member and after looking at the various posts in the searchable archive I was able to quickly pull the old one out and put the new one in. The twelve disc CD player in the trunk works perfectly and seamlessly. I think I paid $70 for the used unit. Look at the audio section as suggested above or ask around. CF is very helpful!!
I still say keep the cassette if you are staying stock. Nothing better than to plug in an MP3 player via cassette adapter. Unlimited music. Get the 12 disc fixed if you want CDs. Probably something simple wrong with it cheaper and less hassle than doing a swap IMHO.

Thanks guys!
The factory GM CD player will match completely. Same wiring harness & the rear disc player will work with it also. To use the rear disc player, you have to use the aux button on the radio. Thought my rear disc player was a 12 disc instead of 10.
Yes, it could be the Bose system even with the cassette player OEM head unit. I just pulled the cassette player original unit and 12-Disc CD changer out of my '99 convertible and it is the Bose system.
System still worked fine but it was time to update to something that could work my iPod and with built-in bluetooth.
