I've had similar issues as to what you are describing with amps i've installed. Can't speak so much with reverse cams but I'd not count the amp out as a culprit.
You could use a relay to turn the camera on using your current back up camera turn on wire for the switch.
What issues arose from the amps?? I have a kenwood and 2 rockford fosgates hooked directly to the battery terminal of the fusebox under the hood. It seems it was made for just this type of installation.
I only see the lights on the amps glow when the stereo is ON.
They all seem to function from the blue wire that comes from the radio.
With the info that I have, I am now wondering if that slight glow was enough to kill my battery after 8 days. I've left the GPS plugged in before and that charges the internal battery of the GPS and that killed the battery.
I have an Interstate which I have always thought were good batteries.
I don't see any lights on going to any of my amps so basically, all I can think of is the LED's and the clock on the radio that are drawing power.
Our Vettes tend to run our batteries down anyway and perhaps the IR LED's were helping with the draw - it might be best to get a battery tender for your battery - I have one on mine just so I don't have any issues and it is always charged up
That was awesome that he got back to you and so fast too! and yes I did have a good time at the wedding!

They basically are a low amp self maintaining charger for the battery that shuts itself off so it does not overcharge the battery!
You simply hook it up to the ground and positive and mount it in the battery den area and plug it in daily to an extension cord - I leave a towel on my windshield and the hood cracked open to make sure I don't "EVER" drive away with it plugged in
If you do a SEARCH here on Battery Tenders you will see many that our vendors sell!
