My Owner's Manual says the spark plugs are a "PTJ16R15"
The Dealer says that the part # has been changed (price went down, too) but the GM or A/C part numbers (old or new) are not anything like that.
And does anyone have experience with the new and cheaper plugs?
Don't use the stock plugs. They have a little puck that tends to fall off insside the engine. A lot of people (including me) use and love the NGK TR-55 plugs but they are copper and don't last as long but they do offer a little better performance. If you want to stay with platinum don't get the GM ones
The PTJ16R15 is a Denso plug. The AC Delco designation is ACD 41-974. The stock # is 12563707. My local parts place wants 6.59 per. If you shop around, I am sure you can get it cheaper than that.
Another substitute outside of the NGK tr55vw and/or the TR6 is the number 12 rapidfires. I personally after much reading decided to stick with the stocks. I would be tempted to switch if it offered measurable differences, such as: we dyno ed side by side the Denso, NGK tr55, tr6, rapid fire 12 and brand x was better than the stock. But for better or worse this brand and specified plug was the one chosen that gives this engine pretty good performance.
