Default K Harness

Can anybody tell me what the function of the K Harness use by GM in the column lock fix. My car had the service column message and would shut off as soon as I tried to move it. Luckily it happened in my driveway so I was able to idle it into the garage with a few restarts. I ordered a CLB for it. In all my research on this forum I decided to see if I had this K harness.
I removed it and now the car works fine. I am still going to install the CLB. I think I will also keep a torx screwdriver in the car so I can remove the knee panel and hook the lock up if the CLB fails to get me home. Does any of this make sense? I tried it again right before taking it apart and still got the message but it works fine with the K harness out. I am new to these cars. It seems since GM took the lock ring out they could have turned off the fuel shut off and just bypassed the whole thing. Or would that make too much sense. They were not yet Government Motors at that time.

The original replacement "K" harness was prone to failure. GM, as I understand from posts from other Forum members, is now supplying a new "K" harness that is SUPPOSED to work all right. Most people here still recommend the CLB, 'tho there was some talk about GM's harness--if it works--being better for the car than the CLB.

Seems like you are on the right track. Good luck.

When did GM come out with the new harness?
I had the re-call done in April of 2007.

The CLB is in and works fine. All is well again.
