I'll be starting to get parts for a small build quite soon on my '00 C5 and am now trying to figure out the proper rocker arms to use for a cam with around .600 lift. I understand the stock LS1 rocker arms are not a good choice for bigger cams, I'm assuming mine with have near .600 lift per Camshaft Innovations. Below is the list of mods for the build. Please chime-in if you'd like. Thank you in advance.
-Stock LS1 shortblock
-Double roller timing chain
-PRC 220cc 5.3L stage 2.5 heads from Texas Speed
-Trick Flow 5/16" dia, 7.5" Chromemoly pushrods
-Camshaft Innovations custom cam (pending response from Jay)
-LS6 Intake & TB
-80mm or 85mm MAF
-CAI
-Texas Speed 1 3/4" FL headers & 3" X-pipe
Would LS6 or LS7 rockers be a good feasible choice?
Or adding Comp Cams Trunion Upgrade Kit be a good choice for this set up?
how fast are you going to spin the motor? The stock ones are good.
That depends somewhat on the cam design which I do not know right now because I haven't heard back from Jay at C.I. But since the shortblock will be stock I won't run the motor past 6,500 rpm. Using stock LS1 rockers with a cam over .550 lift can shorten valvetrain life due the angle the rockers rest on the push rods at a certain lift. So I guess that rules out the Trunion Kit.
Fyi- I would like the proper rocker arms for my set-up, not rockers that will just be "ok" to use and just "get me by for now" so to speak.
I turn my motor to 7200 with .612" lift using stock LS1 rockers and have a great wipe pattern -- much better than almost any roller rockers would be without proper shimming/setup.

I run a .603/.609 lift cam with stock rockers and I have no problem....

Per reading articles which advised not using stock LS1 rockers with cams over .550 lift due to the geometry and it will shorten the valvetrain life over time. They were believable because the geometry was explained.
I use the Comp Cams #1500 system, but you need to add a spacer (1/2") to get clearance in the valve cover.
You might also consider new lifters.
(I use Morel)
With that much lift, I would consider a FAST 90 or 105 and TB to match
Yes I am replacing the stock lifters. I won't use used lifters on a new cam. If I go with LS7 lifters I know I'll have to coordinate proper push rod length.
I'm getting the cam designed to work specifically with everything else I'm using, including the LS6 intake, TB and MAF. IMO, cam design/selection should be based upon the engine components that are being used. And to not base other engine components/mods on the cam being used. That said, I'm trying to figure which rockers I'll be using to notify the cam designer. I just don't want the rockers to limit the cam in some way, shape or form is all.
For that lift you would be fine by just rebuilding the stockers with the Comp cam kit.
The Yella Terra are a fine choice as well. If Hinson is still selling the YT at $375 I might be tempted to got that route just because. The Comp kit if you do it yourself is anywhere from $104- $134 depending on were you get it.
It's not a real difficult job but you do need some tools and a bench to work on. I've done so many I cant count and the other day for the first time ever I had one slip in the jig and nick the bearing just a tiny bit. I wont let it go out that way of course so I ordered a new set of bearings from Comp but it can happen...LOL
I offer them rebuilt on core exchange or will take yours and rebuild them with one day turn around. $199
