I know they're basically the same as the coupe/vert calipers, but would I need to change the pads and rotors if I put in the new calipers?
After I take out the old calipers, is it possible to put them on a f-body (w/17 inch wheels)? (ok, I should post this on ls1.com, but just in case anyone here as tried - two birds with one stone...)
They are EXACTLY the same as the coupe/vert calipers except for the color. You do not need to change the pads/rotors, but I upgraded to the Hawk pads while I was in there. They made all the difference..............I had a chance to test them almost immediately when some douche bag tried to merge into the side of me going ~75mph. It was like throwing out the anchor! :yesnod: :D
About the F-body, I heard it was possible, but a new bracket is needed. No direct bolt-on. Those guys would know better...............
FYI, in case you didn't know...You can paint the stock calibers.... its a lot cheaper, $5-45 depending on which method you use.
Yeah, a co-worker painted the calipers on his SS following the procedures on ls1.com. It's been a little over a year, and it's starting to flake off. It looks *really* nasty now. He said he really cleaned the calipers and did multiple coats. I tend to believe him as he's really **** about the car, but maybe it's because he washes the car EVERY saturday...
I was just thinking that for about $350, it's worth it considering the time it would take to do it myself - especially, if I had to do it again next year.
You might consider taking them completely off and sending them to get powder coated.
I'm not a big fan of the "self-painting" method. Unless you take them completely off anyway you get paint all over the back of the brake pad which looks cheesy and, like you mentioned, you run the chance of flaking. The end result is never as professional looking as powder coating or just buying them for $325 or whatever it is.
Good luck......... :D

A lot of forum members have done it, had it on for years, and no problems. I would take my chances for the $$$. There are several different methods, wiether it be spray on paint thats OEM, Rustolum, or High-temp they all seem to hold up, or the Folia-Tec brush-on thats made for brakes.
