Ok I embarrased myself tonight. We had a cookout after work, and a bunch of guys wanted me to bring the Vette around, and show them what it'll do.
I have the vortex rammer, SLP loudmouths, but anv A4 tranny. I pulled up, downshifted to 1st, and let her rip. Hardly any tire spin, tried a second time, same thing. Yes, i had the traction control off. Seems like it always does this, if I roll a few feet before nailing it, she puts on a pretty good show, but from a start...no.
I just drove home without going back to face the laughter 'til tommorw.
I'll tell you how to roast the tires if you tell me how the loudmouths are on an A4. Turn off the tcs. Put it in D,3, or 1. Just not in 2 (if you put it in 2 it cuts out 1st gear, use that when your in the snow.) With your left foot put on the breaks, with your right bring up the rpms I think 1500 is about enough. Dump the brake and put the gas pedal to the floor. That should put out enough smoke and burnt rubber for your freinds. Now how do you like the loud mouths I want loud but I don't really like the tone of the B&B PRTs. Is their a lot of resonance on the highway. A little is Ok as long as you can still talk inside the car. Thanks.
The loudmouths are pretty much always loud. On the highway, if you're on level ground cruising at 65 or so, they a fairly quiet. You can talk normally, and listen to the stereo. But basically anytime you have your foot on the gas, they are loud.
I like 'em, guess I bought the car to be a sports car, not a station wagon. The first time I fired up a Viper, I said "that's what a sports car should sound like" and went for the most powerful sound I could get.
If you have a 6-speed, then take the RPM's to 1000-1500 and let out the clutch quickly. If you have an auto, then powerbrake: put your foot on the brake hard, press the accelerator until the RPM's reach 1500, take your foot off the brake fast. Save up for some new tires.
is it me or does the car seem to bog almost like it cuts the engine when you try to power brake ? My car usually rips em up pretty good though especially if the tires are cold :yesnod:
I don't "beat" on my car and therefore have never spun my tires into a cloud of smoke- my question is: when you do a burnout on the street, do you get the same wheelhop as on the track?
No problem in an MN6! :D
nope! I did one this weekend and got the awful clutch smell though. I think it was clutch--rubber and clutch don't smell the same, do they?
Nope Clutch smells like burnt brake pads. Or similar to an electrical fire.
The way I do a burn-out in my A4 is the following. Turn off traction control. Put it in 1. Hit the brakes just light enough to keep the car from moving. Go to at least half throttle, but watch the tach, you might find yourself bouncing of the limiter. Let off the brakes even more once you start smoking the tires. That way your brakes are giving you minimal resistance. You can switch gears if you start hitting the limiter or start getting traction and hit it harder. Then let it roll out. Make sure nothing is in front of you. :D .
I am not sure what you are looking for but you have traction, which in my book is a very good thing. Talk to the big HP boys who have the other problem.
Believe me I know that traction is the best thing, as an engineer I know that there are other engineers staying up late nights trying to prevent wheelspin. I also take issue with those who claim I'm "beating" on my car. I am maticulous in maintaining all my vehicles, inside out and upside down, but there comes a time when common sense goes out the window, and you want to just show the nay-sayers what the best American sports car can do.
Thanks for all the replies, it's basically what I have done, but it won't roast 'em like my 98 Z28, but it won't launch, it just burns them.
