I bet you have to go from under the car or take out the wheel well.

you can access antennae mounting points behind tail light. If antennae is extended too far you may have to remove inner fender liner to drop from underneath

Just replace the Mast.
--------------------------------------------
Power Antenna Mast Replacement
Removal Procedure
The power antenna is serviced as a complete unit only, however an antenna (mast) which has been bent or broken can be replaced, rather than replacing the complete power antenna.

Using the socket (1) provided with the antenna (mast) service kit, remove the antenna mast nut (2).

Turn the ignition to the ACC or ON position.
Turn the radio ON to raise the power antenna.

Important
Prior to complete removal, note the orientation of the serrated side of the antenna mast plastic cable (5).
The antenna mast plastic cable (5) will likely coil back once removed, take precautions to avoid grease splatter on the vehicle.

Remove the antenna mast (4) with the contact spring (3). It may be necessary to gently pull the mast up by hand to release and remove.
Turn the radio OFF.
Turn the ignition OFF.
Installation Procedure

Turn the ignition to the ACC or ON position.
Turn the radio ON.
Insert the replacement antenna (mast) plastic cable (5) into the power antenna housing, with the serrated side of the cable facing slightly forward and toward the RH side of the vehicle. When resistance is felt, continue to gently push until the tip of the cable engages in the motor.
While guiding the plastic cable into the housing, have an assistant turn the radio OFF.
Quickly align and guide the antenna mast (4) into the power antenna housing.

Push the contact spring (flared end up) over the antenna mast and into the power antenna housing.
Install the antenna mast nut (2).

Using the socket (1) provided, tighten the antenna mast nut (2).
Turn the radio ON and OFF, allowing the antenna to cycle several times; in order to check antenna operation and until the antenna mast fully extends and retracts. (Usually one or two cycles are sufficient to fully extend the mast.)
Turn the ignition OFF.

Default Assumg you have a power antenna go to ANTENNAMASTRUS.COM

Get a replacement mast for under $20 at ANTENNAMASTRUS.COM for a replacemant mast for your power antenna. Replaced mine and it works perfectly. They are helpful too if you have any questions. Pics of how to replace on their website. Access the motor thru left tail light. Took me 2 hours including removing a broken section of plastic used to raise and lower the mast.

While you are at it you may want to consider splicing a switch on the pink antenna wire so you can control when you want the antenna up or down. As you know the antenna goes up even if you are only using the cd player. I keep mine down unless I want to listen to the radio, which is seldom. I figure that is less wear and tear on the antenna and hopefully it will last longer.

Default Stuck mast

Hey all
I am not able to get the mast to come out of the motor housing up tube.
I’ve replaced this type of mast on other vehicles and after removing the nut they all just came rout out just like I see videos this one should. Nope not this one. I tried in the car and finally decided to remove it and out in vise to pull harder so as to not damage car and still nope.

im guessing the small connection tube is corroded inside the housing and frozen in place.

now soaking with penetrant but thought perhaps somebody on here has dealt with this and knows a trick or advice that it’s a lost cause and get an entirely new assembly?

oh and while I got you- on the mast casting there are two Phillips screws connecting grounds. One goes to frame one has double on it with one to wire harnesss and another short 3”

braided one just loose on the other end. WTAF? Where’s that supposed to go

thanks

Thanks - I've contemplated that and still am - my hesitation is that there ALWAYS seems to be some punk *** little ******** who wants to reef on things like this when they walk by.
Add to it being a vette and the fact there's plenty of haters as well and the likelihood of it happening goes up.
Lost all confidence in being able to 'trust' that the majority of humans will do the right thing/exhibit respect - those are minorities now.

Oh and for the mystery strap that was just hanging in there i've found that apparently it's supposed to go onto some stud in the bent U channel under the rear facia.
I did see also that there is a way to disassemble the casting from the motor and be able to pull the antenna out the bottom vs the top - opening this up will then enable me to pound it through to get it out....
When i get back to it i'll fix the strap connection and see about the mast removal

Good morning. I am having an issue with my power antenna on my 2004 convertible. I bought the mast repair kit. However, there is a piece of the plastic cord broken inside the gear assembly. Would you be able to send me some info on how you removed the broken piece from your antenna gear?
Thanks,
Phil

Were you able to get the antenna unstuck? I am having the same issue on my 98 right now.

I am having the same issue with broken parts inside the motor. The motor appears to be put together with plastic rivets. How did you remove them and then how did you et them back together?

I had the same issue in getting the collar out of the unit. I found that a concrete drill bit was the perfect size to force the collar out. Now...can anyone help me figure out how to get the plastic rivets out of the motor so I can remove the broken strap parts?
