Default Negatives about going with 19" wheels

I like the look of the larger diameter wheels but do not want to sacrice performance. Any opinions. I also am wanting to go as wide as I can w/out tubbing. I was told around 11.5 could be the max width but does this change if I had a 19" wheel.

My buddy has them and they look really cool, but I would consider tire size options and pricing.
Good Luck.

negatives: 19's will make the very small rotors in the back look even worse..
you are very limited to tire options.
price will be high ( limited production..)
smaller profile ( looks good but , hit a pot hole.. and you have a broken belt ( <---- new tire ) or worse.. a bent rim.... 19'' tire cost 350 dollars..??
19'' rim 1000 dollars? 35 series profile is like ridding a rigid frame harley..
Want More??? : )

As soon as I sell the ones I have and can get some extra cash I'm getting 19"s.
285's on the front and 345's on the rear!!!!!

Hey, do you like your 1o 1/2 and 11 1/2? Are they black in the middle? They are sweet looking. Is there any different feel w/ such a wide tire in front. Any negatives. What brand? I am interested in looking them up. Did you have to tub or do they fit stock in the back. Is 11 1/2 pushing it, any degatives at all. What would you sell yours for? I usually do everything new.

19's look good on show cars but on a daily driver no way. One pothole can cost you literally thousands (trust me I know). Remember if you bend one you bend two because the back wheel always follows the front :(

As all have said. They are for looks only. There is no performance advantage. In fact you loose performance. For one there is absolutly no sidewall flex for off the line acceleration, and in hard corning your rim can hit the road.

I put a set of 18/19" HRE 545s on my car this morning (265/35 Yokohama AVS Sports in front and 295/35s out back). The ride is still pretty good (used to run 17/18" Mallet 396 wheels) and the fit/look is perfect. The rear rotors do look a little small but that will be taken care of with a set of 14" Eradispeeds.

Actually, I do ride a rigid frame Harley and my C-5 with 19" wheels and 295/35 tires is not even close. So far, 7,000 mi and no problems and the ride is just fine.

295/35 should be ok.
345/30-19's should be ok too.

But the 345/25-19's would be a joke...

I hate low profile rims. But keeping my opinion out, a larger rim will be harder to spin, harder to get off the line, and you'll notice it's harder to peel out. It's really like going to a highway gear, you'll sacrafice torque.

i've got HRE 541's on the way. the rear rims are 19x12 that will have 345/30/19 pilot sports on them. the fronts are 18x8.5 with 255/40/18's. i will have to tub (i plan to do this weekend or next weekend). I then plan to get a set of 3.90 gears which will accomodate these taller tires great!!

If you are willing to suffer a loss of performance (however large or slight)
and can live with the ride quality and cost factors then have at it.

Its kind of like lowering your C5, some people love the way it looks but hate the way it rides.

I have to disagree. Anytime you go to a plus size tire, you must try to keep the overall diameter as close to O.E. as possible. On my daily driven Accord, I run 18" wheels/tires. That is a plus 3" fitment, but the overall diameter is exactly the same as stock. This is what contributes to the over "gear ratio" A taller setup equals a lower numerical gear, and a shorter setup equals a higher numerical gear. What you increase in whee diameter, you must reduce in tire sidewall height. If done right, you end up in the same place. To go to a plus 1" on a C5 is no big deal. I am running 18" front and rear, and keeping the O.E. stagger through sidewall height. Many people here do the same, as 18" front wheels are needed to run big brakes, which I hope are in my future. Having said all that, I agree with the comments about ride and ease of damage. As you shorten a sidewall, you are going to reduce flex, which translates to a firmer ride, more road noise, and a greater possibility of impact breaks and bent wheels from road hazards. Like all of the other mods we do, there is going to be a trade off. Looks/performance for practicality/reliability. Find the compromise that you can live with, and enjoy!!!

If you want flat out performance stay with 18's. You will loose some performance on drag strip and roadracing changing to 19 rear.
