Oil TEMPERATURE Sending unit
Where is the OIL TEMP sending unit located on an LS6 engine? How easy is it to replace?

Right above the oil filter

I view it as always on the rear top of the block, not down at the oil filter

You are thinking of the oil pressure sensor, not temp sensor.
